304 / 316 stainless steel body · Bi-metal construction
Stainless Steel Bi-Metal Hex Head Self-Drilling Screws

A stainless steel head and shank, a hardened steel drill tip and an EPDM sealing washer bring three functions into one fastening assembly. This bi-metal hex-head range is designed for metal roofing, wall cladding and other sheet-to-steel connections, with sizes, thread arrangements and finishes to suit different project specifications.
- 304 or 316 stainless steel head and shank
- Hardened alloy steel drill tip joined by friction welding
- Stainless steel washer with bonded EPDM seal
KEY FEATURES & PERFORMANCE
Fast drilling.
Lasting protection.
Combine stainless steel corrosion resistance with a hardened steel cutting point. The friction-welded bi-metal construction, external hex drive and bonded EPDM washer are designed to deliver efficient installation, secure fastening and durable sealing in one assembly.
- 01
Long-term corrosion resistance
304 and 316 stainless steel provide corrosion resistance for lasting performance. Use 304 for general exposure and consider 316 for salt-exposed or chemically demanding conditions, matched to the project.
- 02
Fast drilling into steel
The heat-treated alloy steel point is designed to drill directly into steel supports, with cutting hardness to resist dulling and tip breakage. Match the point to the steel grade and thickness.
- 03
Strength through bi-metal construction
A precision friction-welded joint combines a stainless steel head and shank with the hardened tip. This construction is engineered to carry installation forces and resist head shearing in the intended connection.
- 04
Durable, weather-tight sealing
The pre-assembled stainless steel washer carries a vulcanized, bonded EPDM seal. Seated correctly, it forms a durable barrier against rain and moisture at the sheet surface.
- 05
Secure drive. Effective torque transfer.
The external hex flange is designed for firm socket engagement and efficient torque transfer, helping resist bit slippage, cam-out and head rounding when used with the matching driver.
- 06
Threads tailored to the connection
Full-thread and partial-thread designs, including upper support or retaining threads on selected configurations, accommodate different sheet and insulated-panel build-ups.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Size & Configuration Overview
Use the published range below as a starting point for selecting a configuration.
| Head and shank | 304 / 316 stainless steel (source family labels: A2 / A4) |
|---|---|
| Drill-tip material | Hardened alloy carbon steel, friction-welded to the body |
| Head / drive | Hex washer flange head / external hex socket drive |
| Sealing assembly | Pre-assembled stainless steel washer with bonded EPDM |
| Listed diameters | #8, #10, #12 and #14 |
| Listed length range | 1/2-8 in (approximately 13-203 mm) |
| Drill-point options | Tek 3 / Tek 5; select against the support material and thickness |
| Thread arrangements | Full thread; partial thread; upper support / retaining thread options |
| Optional finish | Ruspert coating; project-specific finishes by enquiry |
| Custom production | Dimensions, tolerances, head marking and finish to an agreed specification |
The range is not a stock matrix. A2 / A4 are source family labels, not unconditional grade equivalence; specify the material standard. The final grade, size, point, thread and washer combination is agreed in the quotation.
APPLICATIONS & CONNECTION PLANNING
Connections This Range Is Made For
Roofing & wall cladding
For profiled sheets fixed to metal supports, the hex head provides drive access and the washer assembly forms the sealing contact. Sheet profile, overlap and support thickness guide the screw and washer configuration.
Insulated panels & framing
Panel build-up and steel support conditions determine the required length and thread arrangement. The supported material, insulation thickness and engagement into the frame are considered together in the fixing detail.
Solar & exposed assemblies
The range is also listed for solar substructures and coastal installations. These connections need a specification that considers exposure, contact metals, sealing and the fixing requirements of the complete assembly.
Connection loads and drilling capacity depend on the selected fastener and joint. Use the project fixing schedule and the data for the exact configuration.
COATING SOLUTIONS
A Finish That Fits
the Project
Ruspert coating is an available option for this range. Head colour matching, passivation and other finishing requests can also be reviewed as part of a custom order.
Specialized barrier coatings help control galvanic corrosion where stainless steel screws meet carbon steel supports. Match the finish to the contact metals and exposure conditions to protect the connection, with the required colour and test method included in the specification.

Product, OEM & Packaging Q&A
Answers about bi-metal construction, product configurations, custom production and packaging.
Product
Is the entire screw stainless steel?
The head and shank are stainless steel; the drill tip is hardened alloy carbon steel. This is the defining bi-metal arrangement, so the tip, body and finish should be considered as one assembly when specifying exposure requirements.
Product
Does Tek 3 or Tek 5 define a drilling thickness?
A point designation alone does not provide a verified capacity for every support. Drilling capacity needs to be matched to the exact point, support material and thickness for the selected screw.
Product
Are all listed sizes available in every grade?
The published sizes describe the range rather than every possible combination. Availability is checked for the requested grade, diameter, length, drill point, thread arrangement and washer assembly as part of the quotation.
OEM
Can you customise the screw design?
Yes. We can review head markings, head and drive details, dimensions and tolerances against your drawing or specified standard.
OEM
Can you match the finish or head colour?
Yes. Head colour matching, passivation and specialty finishes can be reviewed for your project or product range.
OEM
Can we review samples before production?
Yes. Custom samples and initial inspection reports can be arranged before full production. The sample scope is agreed during development.
Packaging
What packaging formats are available?
Options include small polybags, inner boxes and industrial bulk packing. The pack format can be matched to your sales channel.
Packaging
Can you use our branding and artwork?
Yes. Box designs and printed logos can use your supplied artwork across the inner and outer packaging.
Packaging
Can you add barcodes and shipping marks?
Yes. Private labels, UPC / EAN barcodes, part numbers and shipping marks can be included in the agreed packaging brief.
