304 / 316 body · Friction-welded hardened drill tip
Stainless Steel Bi-Metal Pan Head Self-Drilling Screws

A stainless steel body and hardened carbon-steel tip combine corrosion selection with metal drilling. The rounded pan head bears on a flat surface without a countersink, making this range useful for sheet assemblies, brackets and equipment enclosures.
- 304 or 316 stainless steel head and upper shank
- Heat-treated alloy carbon-steel tip joined by friction welding
- Phillips shown; Torx and Tek 2 / Tek 3 options listed
KEY FEATURES & PERFORMANCE
A flat bearing face.
A hardened drill tip.
The pan head clamps above the surface, leaving its rounded profile visible. Behind that simple bearing arrangement is a two-material construction: a corrosion-resistant stainless steel body joined to a hardened cutting point for the selected metal support.
- 01
Stainless steel head and shank
304 and 316 provide body-material choices for the exposure. Use 304 for general conditions and assess 316 for salt or chemical exposure; the carbon-steel tip and finish remain part of that review.
- 02
Friction-welded drill tip
A heat-treated alloy carbon-steel point supplies cutting hardness and is joined to the stainless steel body by friction welding. The joint and tip are selected as one fastener configuration.
- 03
Pan-head bearing surface
The rounded pan head has a flat underside for clamping panels and brackets without a countersink. Its raised profile still needs clearance beside covers, moving parts and adjacent fittings.
- 04
Drive choices for access
Phillips is shown on the product image; the range also lists Torx. A matching bit and adequate approach space support engagement and torque transfer during installation.
- 05
Drill, tap and fasten
The drill point opens the hole and the tapping thread establishes engagement as the screw advances. This sequence depends on matching the selected point to the support material and thickness.
- 06
Finish for mixed-metal contact
A protective finish is considered where the stainless steel body meets carbon steel or aluminium. Coating selection addresses the actual contact metals and environment, without assuming complete galvanic isolation.

Published ranges are not a stock matrix. Grade, size, point, head, thread and finish are agreed in the quotation. A2 / A4 are source shorthand for 304 / 316 families; the ordered grade is defined by its material specification.
APPLICATIONS & CONNECTION PLANNING
Connections & Selection Details
Sheet metal & aluminium
Sheet assemblies and aluminium frames need the drill point matched to support thickness. Review dissimilar-metal contact and pan-head bearing area, including any plastic hardware in the build-up.
Electrical cabinets
Flat panels and cabinet brackets suit an above-surface pan-head bearing face. Check cover clearance, tool approach and internal obstructions so the projecting head and point fit the assembly.
Marine & solar fittings
Marine fixtures and solar mounting are listed uses. Exposure, contact metals and structural fixing requirements guide selection; the product listing alone does not establish an approved connection capacity.
Use the fixing schedule and data for the selected fastener and joint. Published applications do not establish a rated load or universal installation method.
COATING SOLUTIONS
Protection at
Metal Interfaces
Ruspert is listed for the range. Other protective finishes can be reviewed against the selected screw, support and exposure requirements.
The body and drill tip are different materials, and the support may introduce a third. Specify the contact metals, finish colour and corrosion-test requirement together. An agreed barrier finish can help manage galvanic corrosion; its name and application must be defined for the order.

Product, OEM & Packaging Q&A
Product selection, custom production and packing details for this screw design.
Product
Is the drill tip stainless steel?
No. The 304 or 316 stainless steel head and upper shank are friction-welded to a hardened alloy carbon-steel drill tip. Review body, tip and finish together for the exposure.
Product
Which drive and point options are listed?
The product image shows Phillips; the range also lists Torx and Tek 2 / Tek 3 points. The actual combination and drilling capacity depend on the selected configuration and support.
Product
Does the pan head need a countersunk seat?
The flat underside bears on the panel or fitting without a countersink. Allow clearance for the raised, rounded head and match its bearing area to the part being clamped.
OEM
Can you customise the head, drive and dimensions?
We can review head logos, head shapes, drive details, dimensions and tolerances against your drawing or specified ASME reference. The agreed design defines the production requirement.
OEM
Can you match a colour or surface treatment?
Head colour matching, passivation and specialty finishes can be reviewed for the selected material and application. Provide the colour reference and exposure conditions with your brief.
OEM
Are samples available before production?
Custom samples and initial inspection reports can be arranged before full production. The sample quantity, inspection scope and approval criteria are agreed during development.
Packaging
Which packing formats can we choose?
Small polybags, inner boxes and industrial bulk packing are available formats. Specify the quantity per pack and handling requirements so the packing specification can be agreed.
Packaging
Can inner and outer packs carry our brand?
Yes. Inner and outer box designs, printed logos and brand artwork can be prepared from your supplied files. Artwork and pack dimensions are reviewed before production.
Packaging
Can you include our barcodes and shipping marks?
Private labels, UPC / EAN barcodes, part numbers and shipping marks can be included in the packaging brief. Supply the required data and label layout for checking.
ORDER SUPPORT
Documents, Production & Delivery
Material & inspection records
Material test reports and mill certificates can be requested for the order. Agree the required documents, inspection scope and batch traceability against the selected material before production.
Stock & custom production
Available stock and factory production follow different order routes. Stock availability is checked for the requested configuration; bulk and custom orders are scheduled to the agreed specification and quantity. Timing is established in the quotation.
International shipping
FOB, CIF and DDP arrangements can be discussed for the destination. Shipment tracking supports the agreed transport route. Route availability, DDP coverage and delivery terms are established with the order.
Standards & Material References
| Dimensional references | ASME B18.6.3 / ASME B18.2.1 / ANSI |
|---|---|
| Material / physical references | ASTM F593 (Group 1: 304/305; Group 2: 316) / ASTM A240 |
Confirm the edition, component scope and inspection documents. ANSI needs a specific reference; ASTM F593 group references do not add 305 as a sale option or certify the complete screw.
