Stainless Steel Torx Flat Head Type 17 Deck Screws

A 304 / 305 stainless steel Type 17 deck screw with a Torx flat head and underhead nibs. The point, coarse threads and countersunk seat are designed to work together in timber-supported decks using treated wood, cedar, redwood or suitable composite boards.
- 304 / 305 stainless steel
- Countersunk flat head with underhead nibs
- T20 / T25 Torx / Notched Type 17 auger point
KEY FEATURES & PERFORMANCE
A flush seat.
A firm timber fixing.
Cutting nibs help the flat head form its seat, while the Type 17 notch starts through the board and coarse threads engage the timber joist. Match these features to the wood species, board construction and desired head position.
- 01
304 / 305 for exterior fixing
The stainless body offers corrosion resistance for outdoor deck assemblies. Material selection should account for timber treatment, wetting and exposure at the actual site.
- 02
Underhead nibs form the seat
Cutting nibs beneath the flat head help make a recessed seat in suitable boards. Confirm countersinking needs in dense timber and the required position at the finished surface.
- 03
Torx torque transfer
The T20 / T25 star recess provides a positive connection to the matching bit. Correct engagement supports controlled driving and helps reduce cam-out and recess damage.
- 04
Notched Type 17 point
The point cuts timber fibres to encourage fast thread engagement. Board density, edge distance and the specified fixing method determine whether a pilot hole is needed.
- 05
Coarse threads pull boards tight
Deep threads engage the timber support to draw the board down. Match threaded engagement to the build-up; board movement and squeaking also depend on moisture and deck construction.
- 06
A defined flush-head finish
The countersunk profile gives a clear seating target at the board face. Review a sample where smooth foot contact, surface appearance or a precise recess depth is important.

APPLICATIONS & CONNECTION PLANNING
Connections This Range Is Made For
Pressure-treated timber
The published applications include ACQ-treated lumber. Confirm the preservative system, retention level and exposure with the timber specification when selecting the screw grade and fixing method.
Cedar, redwood & timber
Specify the wood species, board thickness and fixing position. Head nibs and the Type 17 notch support entry and seating, with pilot holes and edge distances suited to the timber.
Composite decking
For a composite board on timber joists, check the manufacturer's fixing guidance and acceptable head seat. Confirm clearance holes, surface depth and usable engagement before selecting the configuration.
Follow the board and support requirements for the exact joint. Fixing capacity, usable engagement and preparation depend on the selected configuration.
COATING SOLUTIONS
A Finish That Fits
the Project
Head painting, passivation and specialty finishes can be reviewed as part of a custom order for this stainless steel range.
Choose the finish with the board appearance, timber treatment and exposure in mind. Any requested colour, treatment or corrosion test belongs in the agreed specification; custom finishing services do not imply that every treatment is a standard stocked option.

Product, OEM & Packaging Q&A
Product details, custom manufacturing and packaging options for your next enquiry.
Product
Does Type 17 mean no pilot hole is ever needed?
No. The notched point supports fibre cutting and a quick start, but pilot requirements vary with timber density, board construction and distance from edges.
Product
What do the nibs beneath the head do?
They cut into a suitable board surface to help the countersunk head form a recess. The final seating method still follows the material and desired head depth.
Product
Can this replace any Torx flat-head deck screw?
Compare the material, head dimensions, point, threaded length and fixing instructions. A shared head and drive description does not establish interchangeability.
OEM
Can you customise the head, drive or dimensions?
Yes. OEM / ODM enquiries can include head markings, head shape, drive details, dimensions and tolerances. Supply a drawing or the applicable standard so the proposed design can be reviewed.
OEM
Can you match a head colour or special finish?
Yes. Head painting, passivation and specialty treatments can be reviewed with your colour reference and exposure requirements. The process and scope are agreed for the selected screw.
OEM
Can we check samples before full production?
Custom samples and initial inspection reports can be arranged before the production order. Agree the sample specification and review requirements during development.
Packaging
Which packaging formats can we specify?
Options include small polybags, inner boxes, outer cartons and industrial bulk packs. Tell us the quantity per pack and sales channel so the format can be agreed.
Packaging
Can the packaging carry our own brand?
Yes. Supplied logos and artwork can be used for custom box designs and printing across inner and outer packaging. The final artwork is reviewed with the packaging brief.
Packaging
Can you include barcodes, part numbers and shipping marks?
Private labels, UPC / EAN barcodes, part numbers and shipping marks can be included. Provide the required identifiers and label layout for checking with the order.
ORDER SUPPORT
Documents, Production & Delivery
Material & inspection records
Request material test reports (MTRs), mill certificates and the inspection records needed for your order. Document scope and batch traceability are agreed for the selected grade and screw configuration.
Stock & custom production
Stock availability is checked for the requested configuration. Factory-direct bulk and custom orders follow an agreed production schedule based on specification and quantity; dispatch timing is confirmed with the quotation.
Shipping & order support
FOB, CIF and DDP arrangements can be discussed for your destination. The agreed transport route includes shipment tracking, with delivery terms and logistics support set out in the order.
Standards & Material References
| Source dimensional references | ASME B18.6.3 / ASME B18.2.1 / ANSI (designation to be specified) |
|---|---|
| Source material references | ASTM F593 (Group 1: 304/305; Group 2: 316) / ASTM A240 |
Source references require a scope check: F593 covers specified bolts, hex cap screws and studs; A240 covers flat products. They are not blanket certification of this deck screw. Agree the relevant standard and edition.
