Stainless Steel Bugle Head Type 17 Wood Screws

304 and 316 stainless steel bugle-head wood screws combine a curved seating profile, partial thread and Type 17 point. The range is intended for outdoor decking, timber framing, fencing and pergolas, with drive configuration matched to the selected product.

- Curved bugle head
- Type 17 notched wood point
KEY FEATURES & PERFORMANCE
Curved seating.
Controlled bite.
Review the bugle head, Type 17 point and partial-thread configuration against the timber connection. Confirm the drive recess against the selected drawing and product image before ordering.
- 01
Grade selection for the exposure
304, often described as 18-8, is used for general exposure; molybdenum-bearing 316 is considered for salt or chemical conditions. Match the grade to the timber treatment or contact materials and environment.
- 02
Curved bugle-head seating
The curved underside presses wood fibres down as the head seats, supporting a neat surface finish. Final seating depends on timber density and the installation setting.
- 03
Type 17 cutting point
The notched point cuts through timber fibres to assist initial engagement and help limit splitting. It does not remove pilot-hole requirements for every species or edge condition.
- 04
Smooth shank for clamp-up
The upper unthreaded section allows the attached board to draw against the receiving timber. Match its length to the upper member to help reduce jacking and gaps.
- 05
A drive chosen for the order
Torx and internal hex are listed drive options, with internal hex shown in the product image. A matching bit and approved drawing establish the supplied version.
- 06
Wood-thread engagement
The lower wood thread grips the receiving member as the head draws the joint together. Structural use requires connection data for the chosen size, timber and embedment.

APPLICATIONS & CONNECTION PLANNING
Connections This Range Is Made For
Outdoor decking
Match the head seat and smooth-shank length to the deck board, joist and desired surface finish. Confirm board preparation, particularly near ends and edges.
Timber framing & pergolas
For framing, pergolas and other loaded timber joints, specify the member sizes and required fixing schedule. The bugle shape does not by itself establish structural capacity.
Fencing & outdoor joinery
Account for timber species, preservative treatment and weather exposure. Grade, finish, embedment and point selection should be considered as one connection specification.
Select against the actual materials, joint dimensions and exposure. Performance requirements need data for the ordered configuration and complete connection.
COATING SOLUTIONS
A Finish That Fits
the Project
Head colour matching, passivation and specialty finishes can be reviewed with your selected screw. Include the desired appearance and exposure conditions in the enquiry.
Specify the stainless grade, contact materials and environment alongside the finish. A decorative head colour and a protective surface treatment serve different purposes; coating scope and any test requirements are agreed for the exact configuration.

Product, OEM & Packaging Q&A
Product selection, configuration checks, custom production and packaging for this range.
Product
Is this screw always supplied with an internal hex drive?
Internal hex is shown in the image; the source also lists Torx. State the drive required and confirm it on the order drawing rather than assuming both use the same tool.
Product
Does Type 17 mean no pilot hole is needed?
Not in every joint. Timber density, screw diameter, edge distance and the trial installation determine hole preparation. Follow the connection specification for the selected screw.
Product
Does a bugle head establish a structural rating?
No. It describes the head geometry. Structural suitability needs product and connection data for the actual screw size, timber and joint detail.
OEM
Can you customise the screw design?
Yes. Head markings, head and drive details, dimensions and tolerances can be reviewed against your drawing or specified standard. A custom design is agreed separately from the pictured configuration.
OEM
Can you match the head colour or finish?
Yes. Share the target colour, appearance and exposure conditions. Head painting, passivation and specialty finishing requests are reviewed for the selected material and screw configuration.
OEM
Can we approve samples before full production?
Custom samples and initial inspection reports can be arranged before the production order. The sample scope, cost and timing are confirmed during development.
Packaging
Which pack formats can we request?
Options include small polybags, inner boxes and industrial bulk packing. State the order quantity, units and preferred pack count; the final packing quantity and carton size are agreed for the order.
Packaging
Can the packaging carry our brand?
Yes. Inner and outer boxes, printed logos and supplied artwork can be included in a private-label packaging brief. Artwork and print details are approved before production.
Packaging
Can you include barcodes and shipping marks?
Private labels, UPC / EAN barcodes, part numbers and shipping marks can be included. Provide the required identifiers and label artwork so they can be checked against the product and pack format.

Documents, Production & Delivery
Material & inspection records
MTRs and mill certificates can be requested with the enquiry. Identify the material, order and document requirements so record scope and batch traceability can be agreed. Inspection reports are matched to the selected configuration.
Stock, bulk & custom orders
Available stock, bulk production and custom work follow different scheduling routes. Confirm availability for the exact configuration; quantities, specification and sample approval determine the quoted production and dispatch schedule.
International shipping
FOB, CIF or DDP terms can be reviewed for your destination, with shipment tracking arranged for the agreed route. Destination availability, duties, charges and delivery timing are confirmed in the quotation.
